Whether your student is applying to internships, graduate school, or has begun the job search process community service is a great addition to any resume. There are ample opportunities to give back not only on campus but also through out the Oxford Lafayette community as well.
More Than a Meal provides local community members a hot meal every Tuesday and sends them home with toiletries and other household items. Volunteers greet the guests, pass out toiletries, help in the kitchen, serve meals, and help children with homework.
The Leap Frog Program provides after school reading and enrichment tutoring to Oxford and Lafayette Public schools to those in first through third grade. Volunteers commit to two days a week where they help students with reading, homework, and enrichment activities. The Leap Frog Program’s goal is to get their students reading at grade level by the end of the year but to also move on to the next grade as well.
There are a variety of on campus opportunities as well; The Big Event is an annual day of service where Ole Miss students par take in a variety of community service projects across the community. The Big Event is the largest community service project in the history of Ole Miss and is a way for the students to show their gratitude towards community members. The UM Food Bank is a great location to volunteer on a regular basis, after a student completes a training session they are able to serve regularly at the food bank. The UM Food Bank is located in Kinard Hall and provides food to Ole Miss students in need.
