Swayze Crazy

Are you a fan of minor league, major league, or college baseball? If so, now is your moment to shine because baseball season has officially arrived in Oxford. Just like football in the fall, Ole Miss and the city of Oxford revolve entirely around baseball in the spring. Swayze Field, the home of the Diamond Rebels that holds over 10,000 people, is now the place to be. Whether you are stressed about school, work, or anything else, Ole Miss baseball is perfect for relaxing and taking a moment to enjoy life.

Baseball games are a favorite pastime of students for many reasons. One of their favorite things to do is tailgate in the student section before and during every home game. While it is not quite as large as the Grove, baseball tailgating allows students to cheer on their Rebels and have a great time hanging out together. Another favorite tradition for the students and other fans are the famous beer showers that have been recognized on a national level. Whenever an Ole Miss player hits a home run, the student section celebrates by going wild and throwing their beer in the air (hence the name “beer showers”). Food at the baseball games does not disappoint, so there is no need to worry about going hungry. They have concession stands with many different options, and food trucks come join the students in the outfield. Parents are always welcome to join in on the fun. One of my parents’ favorite things to do is come down for a game and hang out in the student section to get the full “college” experience.

After coming off a great season last year as SEC champions, everyone is ready for this season. Although we have had a somewhat bumpy start, the excitement is still in the air. The weather is warming up, and the town is ready for another crazy year at Swayze Field. Take a look at this year’s schedule and find a time to come visit your student and cheer on the Rebs. You certainly do not want to miss out.

So… ARE YOU READY for this season?
