New fitness center opening soon!

The Department of Campus Recreation is opening a brand-new fitness facility for Ole Miss students to enjoy! The new gym, also known as the South Campus Recreation Center, is set to open its doors on August 26, the first day of the fall semester.

The gym will be located at the former Whirlpool property, on the road leading from the Chucky Mullins exit to Old Taylor Road. The facility is free of charge to current Ole Miss students and will also offer membership opportunities for faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. Click here for directions to the South Campus Recreation Center from the Turner Center (the current gym located on campus.)

Although the new recreation center isn’t located on campus, there is an O.U.T. bus loop that will run continuously between campus and the gym. There will also be more than 700 parking spaces adjacent to the building. The facility will include an indoor climbing wall, three fitness studios for instructed classes, two basketball courts, walking/jogging track, classrooms with demonstration kitchens and a convenience store. The South Campus Recreation Center will also offer one of the nation’s only collegiate recreation indoor high-rope courses!

Prior to and until the South Campus Recreation Center opens, Ole Miss students can exercise at the Turner Center on campus. Unfortunately, the Turner Center does not offer any outdoor field space for activities and the intramural fields are not an easy-walking distance. At the new recreation facility, there will be two fields dedicated to intramural sports, sports clubs and informal recreation. This convenient outdoor space at the South Campus Recreation Center will be a huge hit with students!
