This summer, if you were able to attend one of our Empty Nester events, you certainly remember meeting our POM team. But an extension of our team are our partners and so you most certainly met the crew from Katherine Beck, an impeccable gift store on the Square who was at our events helping parents with rush gifts.
Jump back 4 or 5 years ago, I was fortunate to have done the Ribbon Cutting for Katherine Beck, while I was President of the LOU Chamber of Commerce. I knew then this store was nothing short of amazing and their “eye” for beautiful things would land them with huge success.
Shopping local is critical to each businesses success in Oxford. Nothing runs a small SEC town like football and rush. And KB has you handled here too, everything beautiful. At our events, so many parents were aware that rush was a “big deal” at Ole Miss but didn’t quite grasp the whole concept. But then you saw KB’s famous gifts.
Gifts, some of you asked? Why gifts? Heck yes gifts! First things first. There is nothing like an 18-year-old going thru rush to make everyone’s nerves upend. So, the gals at KB take care of these “rush happies.” (Happies: noun; an unexpected small gift or token of appreciation in the South). So, sending a happy to encourage your rushee is a great way to let them know you are thinking about them, even if you can’t be there. Happies range from a sweet treat, a beauty item, a frame or more.
As bid day comes close, Mason Watkins, the owner and her gals work feverishly overnight to fulfil dream Bid Day gifts, filled with the latest chic garb with your daughters newly sported Greek letters. It’s truly a sight to see, but don’t worry, you won’t be able to. Because these girls paper the storefront windows so the magic can happen, secretly.
Katherine Beck really prides itself on its customer service, as they should! It amazes me how Mason and her team work to find the perfect items for each gift. Not premade and stamped with your daughter’s name. No, they individually take their list of pre-orders and go top to bottom, filling each one, in order. Yes, you read that right, each gift is completely custom to your order! How nice that no one get the exact same thing?! Another thing I love? If a rushee doesn’t pledge, but a bid day gift was preordered, they will cancel the order and nothing is charged until they fill the specific gift for your child. As Mason says “I get it. It’s the right thing to do.”
Reasons why we offered Katherine Beck preorders at the Empty Nesters events was because of several reasons.
√ that off your to-do list.
