3 Must-See Historic Sites In Starkville

Starkville has become a destination for people looking for the cultural feel of a larger city, but the charming and warm atmosphere of a small southern town. Since its founding in 1831, Starkville has become a home for many historical sites and buildings that can still be seen and enjoyed today. If you’re looking to appreciate some of Starkville’s rich history, here are 3 must-see historic sites in town.

1. The Montgomery B&B – built in 1837 and renovated in 2019 to become a bed and breakfast, the Montgomery B&B is one of only two antebellum homes left in Starkville. Boasting three beautiful bedrooms for rent, a cozy parlor area, a stately ballroom, and a soon-to-be honeymoon suite, guests frequently enjoy lounging in the parlor with a book or enjoying one of the Montgomery B&B’s complimentary breakfasts. With an old-style feel and modern amenities like TV and high-speed internet, the Montgomery B&B is a great option for spending the night in Starkville and enjoying the town’s historical charm. For more information or to book your stay, visit the Montgomery B&B’s website, or call (662) 617-8068 during front desk hours (8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.).

2. Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum – Founded in 1976 as a way to honor Starkville’s history and to celebrate the nation’s bicentennial, the Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum is home to both permanent artifacts and exhibits and limited-run temporary exhibits. Native American history, Civil War, military artifacts, and agriculture are just some of the exhibits offered at OCHM. The museum is located at the corner of Russell Street and Fellowship Street.

3. Hotel Chester – labeling itself as a “boutique hotel”, Hotel Chester offers a luxurious hotel experience to those spending the night in Starkville. Situated in the historic downtown area, Hotel Chester was built in 1925 and has operated as a hotel under a few different names since. Fully renovated in 2003, Hotel Chester is a historic site with the amenities of a modern hotel, nestled in the heart of downtown.
