Avoid the Freshman 15!

Whether your student is a gym rat or a once-a-month workout type of person, Oxford has a robust number of gyms and workout studios. These places are a great way to keep off the freshman fifteen or even just to alleviate some academic stress.

On Campus

The university provides two locations for the students, both living on campus and off.

The Turner Center, located across the street from the Pavilion, is a three-floor building, but only operates exercises on two. The first floor is home to the Olympic-sized swimming pool, cycling class studios, racquetball and squash courts, along with a game room that offers ping-pong, TVs, X-Boxes, etc. The second floor is for checking in, and the third floor has the traditional fitness center, basketball courts, jogging track, and another group fitness studio.

Just southwest of the Turner Center you can find six Tennis Courts that are used recreationally and academically.

The South Campus Recreation Center (SCRC) is located on Whirlpool Drive, just south of campus. This building is home to an abundant amount of fitness space, training zones, three fitness studios, two basketball courts, a multi-activity court, a walking/jogging track, an indoor climbing wall, and so much more! There are even spaces for personal training appointments. This building is even connected via sidewalk to the South Campus Rail Trail, for the students who like to be immersed in nature.

Another great way to stay in shape is by joining an Intramural Sports Team. These teams are also a great way to meet new people.
