Off the Beaten Path

I like to consider myself a food connoisseur and back in my hometown of Richmond, VA, we have countless steak houses, taco shops, sushi joints, you name it and we have it! This being my fourth year at Ole Miss, I can pretty confidently say I have tried just about all of the restaurants in Oxford. We all know about Boure, Ajax, and South Depot, so I want to highlight some of the best hidden gems in Oxford that are sure to satisfy all of your cravings!

Known for their cheap prices and authentic Mexican food, the taco shop is located off of University Avenue right next to Sugar Magnolia. Their tacos run just around $2 a piece and I love to pair mine with their chips and guacamole. The BBQ pineapple is my go-to or the shredded chicken. Grab a few friends and take a trip to the best taco shop in Oxford for a few tacos that are sure to knock your socks off!

I discovered B’s Barbeque two years ago while living just a short 5 minute walk from my apartment complex on College Hill Road. I found that the best places to find slow cooked, southern barbeque, are the hole in the wall types. You can never go wrong with a rack of ribs with a side of mashed potatoes and a roll! The fried okra is also a fan favorite and they are to die for! I like to dip mine in Texas Pete. I typically grab my lunch to-go but they have a few tables, which is always fun to sit and watch all the regulars walk in!

Calling all Northeastern natives and bagel lovers! The Luv Shack is hands down the best place for a warm, jersey-style bagel in all of Oxford. Don’t be fooled by the hidden little shack just tucked in the back parking lot off of West Oxford Loop- their bagels are the perfect hangover cure or for just a morning pick-me-up! The owner, Dennis Van Oostendorp decorated the shack with hundreds of old sporting event tickets, concert tickets, and vintage posters. This hidden gem is not too visible from the road, students and Oxonians usually discover it from their friends and coworkers. The Luv Shack does Sunday Bagels from 8am-1pm and they offer different Italian dishes every weekday from 4-8 pm.

The well-known restaurants are definitely worth it but if you want to detour the Square and go somewhere different, these options are worth a try!
