Spring Break Staycation

Spring break is right around the corner, which means half of our student population will be

vacationing at the beach, the ski lodge, their favorite city, or going home to see family. For those

that plan to stay in Oxford, you shouldn’t have to miss out on all the fun! Here are a few ideas of

home adventures to make your staycation fun and memorable!

Explore the Whirlpool Trails

Also known as the South Campus Rail Trail, there are over 26 miles of trail networks in total including several bike trails. The adventures here are endless! Go on a hike, have a picnic by the pond, walk your dog, or just hang up an Eno and enjoy the fresh air!

Visit Rowan Oak

Rowan Oak is a historic place in Oxford. This home was built in the 1840s and later became the home of William Faulkner and his family. Faulkner turned this location into his own private world, which became one of his main inspirations for his writings as well as the history in the Oxford area. Now, Rowan Oak is a gorgeous museum with gardens, trails, pastures, barns, and

more to visit. Hours of operation vary by season, so be sure to check their website before visiting. There is a $5 admission fee for visitors 12 and over, but free for Ole Miss students.

Spend a Day on the Square

There is so much to do in the heart of this town! Our Square has everything you need for a fun staycation day. There are so many delicious restaurants to choose from, whether you are looking for fine dining, southern cooking, pizza, ice cream or coffee, you can find it on the Square. For those looking for a shopping day, the Square is the place to go. You can find clothing, jewelry,

shoes, books, toys, decor, Ole Miss merchandise, and more! Finish the day off with live music and drinks to complete your perfect staycation day!

Travel to Memphis

Just an hour drive north of Oxford is Memphis, TN, the “Home of the Blues & Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Memphis is filled with history- from Sun Studio to the National Civil Rights Museum to Graceland. The downtown area has the famous Beale Street, Peabody Hotel, countless options for amazing BBQ and so much music! At the Riverside you can visit Tom Lee Park, Mud Island, or the Bass Pro Pyramid. The midtown area has the Memphis Zoo, the Brooks Museum of Art, and of course, more music! If you’re looking to get out of Oxford for a day or two, Memphis could be the perfect place for you!

Camp or Spend the day at Sardis

Who needs the beach when you have the lake? If the weather is warm enough, Sardis has many public beaches that you could make your personal paradise! There are also several trails varying in length and challenge level, amazing fishing opportunities, and so many campgrounds with cheap fees for our nature lovers. Located only about 20 minutes from Oxford, Sardis may be a perfect staycation for you!

Take a Trip to Tupelo

Only an hour’s drive from Oxford, Tupelo may have a perfect day trip for you! Here you can visit the Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum, the Tupelo Buffalo Park & Zoo, Natchez Trace Parkway (did you know that "The Trace" runs from Natchez, MS all the way to Nashville, TN with NO stop signs, or traffic lights? Its speed limit is 50mph and strictly enforced!) Enjoy live music, or have a day of retail therapy at the Barnes Crossing Mall.

You Can Always Just be Lazy (:

You’re halfway through the semester- it’s okay to rest! FOMO may get the best of us all

at times, but don’t feel like you have to have a crazy spring break for it to have been a good one.

Sometimes there’s nothing better than staying in pajamas, putting on your favorite movie and

spending the day resting. However you chose to spend your break, we hope it’s a great one!
