I love when a genius idea comes to fruition. Being a local here in Oxford for the past 25 football seasons (because that’s of course how we measure years in God’s Country) I have seen so many businesses start and sadly close. You start to lose track of what that building used to be and before that and before that--anyone remember the old Cedars restaurant out by the airport? It’s been a host of other restaurants since then and last month it took its final bow and was torn down. But with good reason! A new spa and apartment living is coming, because we all know we need more apartments!!
But the premise of this article today is to highlight the genius idea of Kyle Cole, who like me has been here nearly 25 years as well! Kyle started a business earlier this year, called Legacy Oxford - aimed at helping Ole Miss students find their “legacy.” Such a strong word it is - “legacy.” I’m not sure I even contemplated what my legacy would be when I was 18. Probably because no one was really asking about it. “Whats your legacy going to be, Kate?” Or “Have you found your true self?” Nope, never recall those conversations.
But should someone have asked me what my legacy was I’d probably start with something about my Grandfather and how important he was and what a legacy he left. He’d often tell strangers “Let me tell you how lucky I am to be alive.” And then he’d go into the story of how his father was a passenger on the ill-fated Titanic trip. (Yes, it's a true story- my great grandfather was and had he not gotten off, I wouldn't be here today!)
So now you might even be questioning what your own legacy is even now as an adult. Perhaps it’s something that evolves as life moves through its chapters. But the college chapter - what a perplexing and stressful time.
Insert Legacy Oxford. Legacy Oxford offers a career assessment service designed to help individuals understand their strengths, leadership skills, and place in the world. Using the Birkman Method, a well-established personality and career assessment tool, Legacy Oxford helps clients gain insight into their personality, career preferences, and how they interact with others.
While Kyle's passion is in helping college students, Legacy Oxford's services are available to people at different stages of life; from high school students exploring college options, to college students struggling to find their fit, to professionals seeking career changes. The $895 package includes a personalized questionnaire with 60 pages of insightful results, a three-hour consultation with Kyle, an optional parental session, and continued access to Kyle for connections at Ole Miss and with potential companies that line up with his client's strengths.
Kyle has a rich history in mentoring college students as he’s led multiple religious college organizations since he graduated in 2004. He saw this niche for students that needed something beyond just spiritual guidance, but professional and personal guidance as well. When he married all three perspectives, spiritual, professional and personal his concept was eye-opening. Students do need help on all three fronts. Maybe not all at once, but when students have questioned how Legacy Oxford can help, Kyle has found success in aiding students into finding their legacy.

It's always fascinating to think about the legacy we leave behind, especially in professional fields like healthcare. Speaking of legacies, one aspect that often gets overlooked is how we contribute to change through our careers. For instance, ongoing discussions about the practice nurse pay scale 2023 highlight the evolving recognition and reward of nurses' critical role in healthcare. What impact do you think pay scales and benefits have on shaping the legacy of dedicated professionals in healthcare? How does it reflect on their long-term contributions?
